For over 15 years I have been using a Louet Classic Drum Carder. I find this is by far the best carder for carding textured art batts. Many drum carder brands lowest carding cloth is 72 TPI. I find this cloth does not absorb texture into it, keeping texture on the surface and causing the small drum to fill with texture. This can be very frustrating to work with when you are trying to infuse your art batt with texture. 

A drum carder with 46 TPI is the right tool for the job. Like a sponge, you will be able to paint and play with any type of texture, effortlessly layering it between wools and other fibers, without clogging up the small drum.
