Thanks for the great tutorial! I've been thinking of going thrift shop shopping for sweaters but wondering how difficult it would be to unravel! Now I know! - Beth

  • I just came across your website and I wanted to let you know I really enjoyed it. The tutorials were great and I love your sense of humor. A lot of talented crafty people don't like to share their knowledge, so on behalf of folks like me, "thank you". - Melanie

  • We live in Sacramento, CA...As for your website, I could tell by your language in your instructions on how to unravel a sweater that you must be totally cool. You did a great job on your website! -Sunny

  • Hello! I, too, have fallen in love with your simple tutorials, and I'm currently in the process of unravelling my first sweater - me being a Florida girl, it's 100% cotton and promises to be gorgeous once overdyed. - Lila

  • This is hysterical. You should be a stand-up comedian. I guess you kind of are, considering you only sit down to spin yarn or knit. But mostly it looks like you are standing up a lot to wash, dye, and pose for photos. - Kim

  • Hello! I just ran across you site (followed a link from the Interweave site), and read the sweater unravelling tutorial. As a new knitter (just started this week! ;), with no cash to buy yarn, this is the perfect solution! I am so wanting to go hit the local thrift shops and pick up some sweaters!! Thanks for the great tutorial, and the very cool idea. I also want to try the snake scarf pattern; cute but easy enough for a newbie to master. ;) hehehehe. Thanks for sharing your knitting knowledge online--makes it seem a little less intimidating to me! :) - Miss C.

  • Thanks for the tutorial. Can see you had fun. I get a kick out of staging my shots too-simple pleasures of blogging. Double thanks for the noddy idea. So simple once someone else thinks of it! - Nancy

  • Ashley, You, among all women, are the queen of knits, the diva of recycling, the doyenne of brilliant ideas. I found your web site while looking for recycling ideas. (I was on my lunch break so it was legal) I found your stuff on Ebay. I sez to myself, "Self", I sez, "If the venerable Ashley can do it so can I" So, armed with your knowledge I'm taking the afternoon off the go pillaging a few local thrift stores. My mantra for the afternoon will be "the little thread is my friend, I love the little thread." Thank you for taking the time (and photos) to teach me how to save a bundle to support my knitting habit. -Alayne E.

  • Hello! I saw a link to your tutorial about sweater unravelling. I just wanted to share with you that I think it is the CUTEST TUTORIAL THING EVER CREATED. I am going to try it for sure because of it. Yay! - Jossette

  • What a great way to make extra cash! Brilliant. As far the homemade niddy noddy-just because you can buy a tool doesn't mean you have to! I just saw a $10 bow maker at the craft store. It's a piece of wood with a peg in the middle. We already go to thrift stores -now I'll just look at sweaters too. Thanks for sharing the info. - Diana

  • Hi there, Just wanted to send you a note to thank you for your great -how to- on unraveling sweaters. I am leading a program on making cardboard box looms, and will be using the thread from an old sweater to weave with! Your website was so helpful! Thanks again! - Joemy

  • Your "how to unravel a sweater" tutorial is brilliant and...I'm asking your permission to include it in "Punk Knits". It's published with Stewart, Tabori and Chang and slated for release in the Fall 2006. I would of course, include your name as well and would love it if the idea is cool with you. I would hope that punk knitters would simply flock to your site and buy your other items for sale as well!

  • Ashley, I don't have any questions about your site for sweater shredding.....I just wanted to say well done! I have many frustrating hours trying to do this correctly. Thanks for breaking it down. I'm definitely book marking this one. :) Thanks! - DeeDee

  • Hi Ashley, I love your shawl pattern and your website and I just wanted to tell you how great I think it is. I just surfed in when looking for something knitting related on google. All my best, Karen

  • I just found your website, and I love it! I am only an occasional knitter, mostly because the yarn is so darn expensive. I am definitely going to try the yarn recycling idea. I love to recycle, because it is just good for the planet, and here is yet another way I can do that. The picture of your accident is terrible - glad to read that you and your family are okay. Best of luck to you in your ventures. - Amy

  • I just wanted to compliment you on your website (especially the tutorials!) and also to offer my condolences on your accident. I hope you and your husband are doing well. - Helen

  • Glad to see that you are back up and running again. Glad to hear that you are taking time to enjoy the little things in life. I must say I love your web site. It has helped me with frogging and also gave me the itch to try spinning. I have purchased a drop spindle. The first time was not the best. Keep your finger crossed that I get the hang of it. - Vickie

  • Ashley, I was so busy gazing adoringly at the yarn shipment that I totally forgot to contact you - they're great! And the red in the dragon colors is nearly identical to a yarn I'm working with right now... *goes back to gazing* Thanks again, - Carey

  • I just wanted to drop you a note saying hello, i've been away from the computer a lot because i don't have internet right now, but when i do have access i always check your site out because it's so nice to look at and it makes me so happy. i still haven't decided what to make with the yarn i got from you, but i squish the skein every once in a while :D you have such a gift, and i'm so proud of how well you've bounced back from the accident. you are so strong, and i admire you greatly. hope you are having fun today, god bless, - amber

  • I found your site quite by accident...am teaching myself to knit, just little projects to please my hands and gandchildren, living in south Fl. I have very little use for sweaters, BUT, love the idea of recycling! How clever of you to come up with such fun and inspiration. I will give it a try too! - Patty

  • I just finished looking at the web site and it was so hilarious and informative!! I taught myself to knit several years ago but when it came time to actually make a sweater I went into cardiac arrest at the yarn shop. I like to use Natural fibers such as wool and cotton and find the prices prohibitive in the amounts necessary for an afghan or sweater. Thus, I have been limiting myself to scarves and hats. I have shopped in thrift stores all of my life and have often thought of using reclaimed sweaters but was not sure how it would work to unravel them. You have taken my doubt away and I have seen the light! When our local thrift store has 50% of I'll be there perusing the sweater isle. Thanks again for the great info. - Theresa

  • Hi Ashley, thank you for the great online tutorial. I am new to this whole recyling yarn and even knitting. I want to learn to spin as well. I can't believe that you learned to spin in June and are now going to be featured in a magazine. You must have incredible talent. - Carly

  • my number one reason for not knitting is the cost of yarn-- I choose to buy most of my clothes secondhand, so why would I go spend more money on yarn than I'd ever spend on my clothes? a friend send me a link to your site, and WOW! Now I can knit! - linda

  • I just saw your website and am so amazed & impressed with your creativity. I love going to thrift store & treasure hunting clothes. Now I'm going yarn hunting too!!!! I was reacquainted with knitting 9/04 after many years. I'm very addicted to knitting & like you look to recycle other things. Why not yarn?? Thank you Ashley for a phenomenal idea. - Debbie

  • I was most entertained... and must admit, I laughed out loud. You have a wonderful sense of humor. Also very informative...Thank you - Jessica

  • Hi Ashley, Hope you are well and settling into your Oregon life. I ran across your recycled wrap on the Interweave site. That led me to your tutorial, which made me want to say hello to such a clever person. I myself am a crocheter (who is going to learn to knit come hell or high water!) and a fiber nut. I absolutely love the idea of recyling old sweaters. I have a number of thrift stores I cannot wait to go foraging in. You have truly inspired me. - Kell

  • I just wanted to let you know that I unraveled my first thrift store sweater today. Thanks to your clear tutorial on your site, it was easy! Now I'm the owner of a pile of skeins of the prettiest sky blue chenille just waiting to be knit into something else--all for a mere $4.50. Wahooo! Thanks so much! - Melinda

  • I want to let you know that I am a huge fan of your yarn and your mad knitting skills! I dig how creative you are.. I first discovered you in the interweaves knits magazine that your shawl appeared in... then I was just wandering around the pluckyfluff website and hit up your link and was pleasantly surprised to discover it was you! the same girl who created that rad shawl and inspired me to go to Value village and rip apart some sweaters.. I think I am quickly becoming a big fan of yours.. I'm actually pretty disappointed that you live so far away... I hope you have a great day! -Grace

  • I'm sure you get more than your fair share of emails like this, but my name is Andrea and I live in Los Angeles. I have been to every michaels store, jo'ann's and no one has yarn like yours. After visiting your site, I have been inspired to make my own. - Andrea

  • Just wanted to tell you I got my fiber yesterday and it is beautiful! I love it. It's actually for my secret pal, but I think I might have to learn how to spin and get some for myself! Thanks for the gorgeous wool and excellent service! :) - Nikki

  • Thank you Thank You Thank You!!! I love to knit but my hobby tends to get a little expensive too. I stumbled on your site after going through about 15 others talking about their yarn stashes and I was beginning to get jealous. I loved your site and I can't wait to get off work so I can sneak off to the thrift store. Thank You Thank You Thank you!!!!!!!!!! Brooke
